Ruggedly designed, tested and built for ultimate storm-worthy protection in remote, big-mountain environments, the Mentor Jacket™ is a staple of the alpinist's quiver.
Reader Reviews This is a great jacket, able to withstand the windy slopes as well as the heavy rains. The fit is slim/athletic and the medium fits my 5 foot 10 inch 155 pound frame very nicely. The length is nearly at hip level, with the back slightly longer, offering great coverage. The fit at the arm pits is snug with my 40 inch chest, but it also means that the jacket doesn't lift much and my waist is still covered when I raise my arms. The fit at the neck and chin is great - high enough and just snug enough at the chin and yet allows for a high neck fleece layer below. For layering, I had a base layer and a plush fleece, and there were still room for one more. Large pockets! I love the hem to elbow extended ventilating 2 way zips. Hood is huge and it fits my head with a skiing helmet on. The asymmetrical cut of the wrist cuffs covers my forehand more than the palms, which you want. I got the black with the glowing yellow zips - great for visibility as well as for around the town wear. The hood does roll up and stows away with a button strap. Very lightweight. Oh yes, OR used a more rugged fabric at the high wear areas - shoulder and waist sides, especially if you wear a harness - than the rest of the body. Cons: I may be nit picking here but there are a few things OR could improve on this jacket. 1. The zip pull handles are a bit small and the zips themselves are not as smooth operating as I'd like them. 2. The wrist velcro tabs could be a longer for a tighter closure. 3. The hood width adjustment button on the back of the hood could be easier to operate with a gloved hand. Not a Con - but due to the nature of the full elbow to hem pit zips, the draw strings at the bottom do not go all the way around.Read more ›
